Hunt seat, western, and dressage riders alike have the opportunity to train on campus at our state-of-the-art facility, which is home to an indoor arena spanning 125’ x 410’ and a herd of 46 school horses, all of whom are professors in their own right.
Whether a student is a future cardiologist who wishes to ride a horse for the first time or a budding CEO who aspires to win national championships, he or she can find a place at Albion.

Coupled with classes in equine business management, marketing, and accounting graduates of this program will have gained the skills necessary to start their own business.
In addition to traditional health care, Hocking’s program includes student hands-on experience in the newer disciplines of equine acupressure and massage. Midway University
Midway University is a small college located just outside of Lexington, Kentucky, in the heart of the Bluegrass, providing a beautiful landscape for our little campus. We have wonderful faculty who invest in you not only in your academics, but personally in your interests and in your future. We have a 4-year Bachelor of Science in Equine Studies, which means that you will be immersed in the Equine program from day one and start working in our on campus barns and diving into the Equine Industry in your first semester. The three things our program values are experience, work ethic, and connections. Because of those things, one of your first classes will actually have you start working in our barns, which will be your first chance to show our faculty your work ethic and possibly your leadership skills, as well as giving you even more experience in a different environment.
We have three barns on our 200 acre campus, as well as an indoor and outdoor arena. Another first semester equine class will have one large portion completely dedicated to exploring the different facets of the Equine Industry and making connections. Because of this, we have students that will start working in other farms off-campus in their first year, even before their externships start in their Junior and Senior years. We have three concentrations in our Equine program…in Science (Pre-vet), Management, and Sport Horse Rehabilitation. We also have opportunities for riding, including our Hunt Seat and Western IHSA teams. The possibilities at Midway are endless, with our semester-long Equine internship in Panama, the Kentucky Horse Park, Keenland Racetrack, Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital and Hagyard Equine Medical Institute and many more connections in the area and around the world!

Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation
The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, founded in 1983, is the oldest and largest thoroughbred sanctuary in the United States. Currently caring for approximately 700 retired racehorses, the TRF is a safe haven for those thoroughbreds no longer able to compete on the track, and are not able to have a secondary athletic career due to age, injury or circumstance. These horses then, are “teachers” in the TRF Second Chances Program at seven correctional facilities. Ranging from 6 years old to 35 years old, these horses teach the inmates a vocation as well as valuable life and soft skills. The dual mission of “Saving Horses, and Saving Lives” is accomplished through this program as the horses are given the retirement they deserve and the men and woman are given a second chance on life. The TRF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that relies solely upon private donations. To learn more about the programs nearest to you, open houses and fundraisers please visit: www.trfinc.org , Facebook: /ThoroughbredRetirementFoundation, or twitter: @trfinc. Any questions can be sent to info@thoroughbredretirement.org
Currently the TRF has many opportunities to be a volunteer at the sanctuary farms or correctional facilities across the east coast! In addition, the Summer Farm in Saratoga, NY will need an intern to assist with care and training of the horses as well as community outreach activities and fundraisers. The internship will also allow the intern to visit the TRF Second Chances Program at the Wallkill Correctional Facility in New York.https://www.trfinc.org/working-student-saratoga-ny/
